2013 Food Pantry Challenge

Sunday School Fall 500:

Once again, the challenge is on to collect 500 items for the less fortunate in our community.  This year, we have a “head-start”, as we collected 140 toothbrushes, toothpaste & floss for HEADSTART preschool programs in 5 counties.  Rachel  Luers spearheaded this collection as part of a community outreach project she’s working on in her nursing classes, as she works toward her RN.  Now we need 360 food, personal care products and/or laundry products to reach our goal by Sunday, November 24.  The Sunday School is asking both our churches to help us reach this goal.  Canned fruit is the canned food item in most need.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.  Matthew 25:35

On December 8, we will help pack food baskets at the Food Pantry, 1-3 pm.  Sunman Food Pantry expects to give out about 200 food baskets this year.  Looking for something special to do during the holidays?  It’s right here, literally, in our own back yard!  Families are welcome (and encouraged) to help.  Children 9 & up can come on their own.  Those under 9 must be accompanied by an adult.

Update:  As of November 24, we had reached – and far exceeded – our goal.  692 food & personal care items were collected at St. Jacob’s and St. John’s!!  Wow!  Thank you to all who helped achieve this goal!  What a great way to start the Advent season!
