Today we have been invited to participate in St. Jacob’s annual Worship Service at the Pond, held at the Junior & Janice Ratliff residence at 28901 Blue Creek Rd, Sunman, Indiana.
The service will be held at 10:30 am. Please feel free to bring a bag lunch and your own drinks, and join us for a picnic lunch after worship!
Worship Services resume this Sunday, May 24, 2020 at 10:30 am.
Our primary concern is for the congregation’s health.
Here are several suggestions from the recent council meeting that were adopted as new policy for the foreseeable future:
–there would not be a handshake greeting at the door.
–we are encouraged to use masks and if you do not have one there will be disposable masks available.
—please sit at social distance from other immediate families.
—Offering plates will not be passed and offerings will be gathered in a basket at the church door.
—hand sanitizer will be available as usual.
—after worship, conversations should be moved to the outside of the building if possible. The open air is the enemy of this virus.
Looking to scripture for guidance, in the Old Testament the prophet Micah spoke to people in uncertain times about what God requires of Faithful people. God’s directive:
WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD
I know several families who have lost loved ones of differing ages to this new and little understood illness. Please call me and one another and continue to ask God to guide us with kindness, justice and patience during this difficult time.
Please be patient, though it’s difficult. The last pandemic in 1917-1919 lasted over two years. The scriptures are full of guidance in difficult times, and we will be looking at these in days ahead.
If you are aware of anyone in the church or community who is facing immediate needs because of the pandemic please contact me or a member of the church council.
Yours in Christ,

God be with you till we meet again.
By His counsel may he hold you,
In His loving arms enfold you.
God be with you till we meet again.
God bless you. I hope you’re doing well.
Here are three thoughts about claiming the well-being that God wants for us.
1. When we feel alone or cut off – remember there were occasions in the Bible when people were alone. Jesus, Moses, and others went off by themselves into the wilderness so that God might give them guidance. Please pray that God show us the best way to use this time.
2. When we miss the experience of worship – I suggest we review the words of a favorite Christian song or hymn. I believe this will bless us.
3. When we miss the fellowship of others – I encourage you to call and check on one another. When you build the church, prayer and fellowship mix together to create the mortar which keeps us strong. Remember, church lives in your heart, not in a building.
God bless you and keep you today and always.
Dear God, we your people want to follow your direction in all the circumstances we face. When we can’t physically be together, we know that we can communicate with each other and strengthen each other with your help. Thank you for the promises of faith that can keep us strong in difficult times.
If you have a prayer request or news about you or your family that you can share please call me at 859-466-4344.

A message from Dwain Gesell, Church Council President
Our church council, after many phone conversations, has decided to cancel our Homecoming Chicken Dinner scheduled for June 7, 2020. The current health concerns limit us from dishes being brought in from our homes for now. We don’t plan to give up on our tradition of church dinners, but we need to put this one on hold for now. Also, at present will not have worship through May 3rd. Don’t give up; together we will find a way.
During this important time, donations to our church can be mailed directly to the church office. I’m picking up the mail daily and distributing as needed.

Dear friends at St. John’s,
I’m sure you’re sorting through many items you may not have looked at in a long time. I found something that really struck me, and I want to share it with you.
My great-grandfather was a Disciples of Christ minister in Boone and Montgomery Counties in Indiana. I found his hymnal and many pages were very worn. One page especially so was entitled “I Look Not Back”. I share the words with you for your reflection:
I look not back, God knows the fruitless efforts,
the wasted hours, the sinning, the regrets.
I leave them all with Him who blots the record
and graciously forgives and then forgets.
I look not forward; God sees all the future,
the road, that’s short or long, will beat me home
and He will face with me its every trial
and bear with me the burdens that may come.
I look not round me, then what fears assail me,
So wild the tumult of Earth’s restless seas
So dark the world, so filled with woe and evil
So vain the hope of comfort and of ease.
But I look up, into the face of Jesus,
For there my heart can rest, my fears are stilled
And there is joy, and love, and light for darkness
And perfect peace and every hope fulfilled.
God bless you all! Looking forward to seeing you as soon as we can do so in a good and safe way.
Expect an update from us after our Board meets next week.
